No Country for Old Men in The Spotlight at the Oscars
No Country for Old Men was in the spotlight during the 80th Academy Awards ceremony which took place in Los Angeles on Sunday night, as it gathered four Oscars, and all of them big ones: best picture, best adapted screenplay, best director and best supporting actor.

The adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s novel, directed by already famous Joel and Ethan Coen has beaten out Juno, Michael Clayton and There Will Be Blood for the best picture award, the most desired in the ceremony.

The Coen brothers also won the best director golden statuette, minutes before the No Country for Old Men, which starrs Javier Bardem, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin, was named the best picture of the year, and also the award for the best adapted screenplay.

"I think whatever success we've had in this area has been entirely attributable to how selective we are," Joel Coen said upon accepting the Oscar for best adapted screenplay. "We've only adapted Homer and Cormac McCarthy. So, thank you."

Joel Coen made reference to the epic poem by Homer, The Odyssey, which was the inspiration for Coen brothers' 2000 film, O Brother, Where Art Thou?

The fourth award was received by Javier Bardem for best supporting actor.

The best actor award was won by Daniel Day-Lewis for his performance in There Will Be Blood, and Marion Cotillard for her role in La Vie En Rose.

Diablo Cody’s Juno was named the best original screenplay, beating Nancy Oliver, Tony Gilroy, Brad Bird and Tamara Jenkins.

"What is happening?" a surprised Cody said as she collected her award for the popular teen pregnancy comedy. "This is for the writers. ... I especially want to thank all my fellow nominees because I worship you guys and I'm learning from you every day."

The Golden Compass earned the honor for visual effects, while Sweeney Todd won art direction and Elizabeth: The Golden Age won the award for costumes. Atonement won the Oscar for original musical score.
