Troubled British singer Pete Doherty has been released from
jail after serving 29 days of a 14-week sentence stemming from drug and driving
offences, the BBC News reports. The “Babyshambles” frontman had been in
Wormwood Scrubs prison in west London.
Doherty got a suspended sentence for driving while uninsured
and with no MoT while in possession of crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and
cannabis. He was sent to prison in April after several missing appointments
with his probation officers.
The ex-boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss said after leaving Wormwood
Scrubs Prison in London
that he was looking forward to drinking a rum and coke and spending some time
with his cats. He depicted his life as a lot of gangsters" and even showed
the waiting media a certificate confirming he had passed a drugs test while
inside.
“Well, I knew it was going to be a bit rough to start with,
with the overcrowding and the medical facilities although they do their best -
they are good, they can't really cater for the average junkie,” Doherty said,
quoted by AFP.
After he was jailed, Doherty had to postpone a concert at
the Royal Albert Hall, which would have been his biggest solo show yet. The
show is due to be rescheduled and all tickets will be valid for the new date.
Doherty had a tumultuous relationship with Kate Moss,
frequently covered by the press. They met in January 2005 at Moss' 31st
birthday party and have had an on-off relationship since. Moss has also taken
to singing at some of Doherty's shows. Since July 2007 Moss and Doherty have
broken up.
