“Pineapple Express”: Comedy or…not?
“Pineapple Express”: Comedy or…not?
“Pineapple Express” is Judd Apatow’s latest movie which conquers Hollywood. Critics say that the movie is both humorous and uneven at times. But this might happen because of the 1970s style action sequels included in the movie. Still, “Pineapple Express” is funny and entertaining, even if, at times, it leaves you with more and more questions about the reality the movie tries to copy.

The action of the movie beings in the late 1930s and presents a private in the Army (Bill Hader) smoking a strain of pot know as Pineapple Express, which is grown in labs underground. The action moves to the present after some hilarious moments. Process server Dale (Seth Rogen) meets his drug dealer, Saul (James Franco).

Dale is witness at a shooting. The two stones and their Pineapple Express seem to have been caught in a comedy-drama movie. Still, there are no women playing lead roles.

Saul might by the nicest guy in the whole movie action and James Franco makes it a real character. He is the kind of guy who tries to cut his way out, not to get into too much trouble and at the end to be that perfect dad.

Critics also say that whole parts of the dialogues seem to be missing and plot threats aren’t followed accordingly. As some would say, filmmakers forget they’re making an action picture. But it’s a start for screenwriters Rogan and Evan Goldberg as this is the first time they write a comedy plot. As for David Gordon Green, the director of the movie…oh well, he’ll just have to rehearse more.
