Two women and a man stole a $1,500 Pomeranian Puppy from a Naperville pet shop, the
place where they worked.
Police said the thieves – Anais Marquez and Karlie Pellock, both
19 and of Plainfield – planned to steal the
puppy with Emanuel Lopez, 19, of Plainfield.
Naperville Police said Emanuel Lopez had hidden the dog under
his shirt and he managed to leave the pet shop, but a video camera captured
images of him. The eight-week-old Pomeranian puppy had a microchip inserted beneath
its skin. This was first a rumor, but store owners Mike Asaac and Adam Stachowiak
confirmed it.
The thieves were arrested Monday, after the dog was found. A
Planfield woman, 45 and her teenage son returned it to the store. She recognized
the dog after seeing it on media reports. Photos with the missing puppy were
published online by The Naperville Sun or presented in reports made by
Chicago-area television stations. Some youths in the neighborhood gave her the
male Pomeranian dog. The woman said they were trying to sell it.
"I think what they (the thieves) are doing is wrong, so
I'm bringing the puppy back," said the woman when she brought the puppy to
the pet owner.
At about 2:30 p.m., when police arrived at the store, the
woman said to the police officer that she doesn’t know anything about the
puppy, but she wants to do them a favor. After 30 minutes of interrogations,
they both left the store, without being arrested.
The Naperville
Sun reported the puppy was investigated by a veterinarian. A “quarantine check”
was needed to ensure it did not become ill or infected with a disease while
missing.
