‘Prince Caspian’ Rules the Box Office

Disney blockbuster “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” managed to dethrone “Iron Man” from the top of the U.S. and Canadian box office, BBC News reports. It appears that the latest film adaptation of CS Lewis’ Narnia books earned $56.6 million between Friday and Sunday.

Romantic comedy “What Happens in Vegas”, starring Cameron Diaz and Aston Kutcher, took $13.9 million to hit the third spot, while “Speed Racer”, from Matrix masters Andy and Larry Wachowski, ranked No. 4. The big-budget anime-inspired movie, starring Emile Hirsch and Christina Ricci, took $7.6 million in its second week.

Motherhood comedy “Baby Mama”, starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, made $4.6 million to inch ahead of Patrick Dempsey’s romantic comedy “Made of Honor”, which earned $4.5 million, BBC News reports.

“Forgetting Sarah Marshall” ranked No.7 with $2.5 million, followed by “Harold and Kumar Escape” from Guantanamo Bay with $1.8 million, while Jackie Chan and Jet Li’s martial arts movie “The Forbidden Kingdom” dropped a spot to ninth with $1 million.

Rounding out the top 10 is newcomer “The Visitor” with takings of $687,000. The independent film focuses its plot around an uptight professor who finds two strangers in his apartment and finally learns to live with them.

“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, which had its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, is due to open in theaters in the U.S. and Canada on Thursday.
