R. Kelly to Be, or Not to Be Convicted Friday

It has finally arrived! What? Well, the day of R. Kelly’s trial which was long-delayed until finally this Friday. The Grammy-winning R&B was charged with child pornography six years ago. The trial has been delayed for this period and afterwards was postponed again by the attorneys Wednesday. Judge Vincent Gaughan could rule on that request Friday.

The singer was accused of allegedly having sex relations with a 13-year-old girl and to have videotaped the scene. The 41-year-old Kelly, whose real name is Robert Kelly, has pleaded not guilty to the accusations. While the reasons of the second delay were not revealed so far as well as many other things within the trial, Judge Gaughan revealed that the video footage might be shown in open court.

According to the prosecutors, the video tape was made sometimes between Jan. 1, 1998 and Nov. 1, 2000. The girl who is said to appear in the tape was born in 1984. However, the girl claims it wasn’t her. Further on Kelly's lawyers, including prominent Chicago attorney Ed Genson, haven't admitted it's Kelly in the video.

Last Friday many Kelly detractors appeared outside the courthouse expressing support for victims of child pornography, surrounded also by photographers and cameramen. At the end of the trial, which will probably last for several weeks, it will be said whether the singer will be convicted or not. If he will be found guilty, he could face almost 15 years in prison.
