On Monday morning, controversial radio host Don Imus revealed on his show that he was diagnosed with stage II prostate cancer, which his doctors believe he's going to defeat. Known for his outspoken opinions on everything from sports to politics, the 68-year-old host said he has full faith that "his doctors will beat it." He did not discuss any treatment nor his prognosis. According to the National Cancer Institute Web site, in stage 2, cancer is more advanced than stage 1 but has not spread outside the prostate. "The day you find out is fine," Imus told his audience. "But the next morning when you get up, your knees are shaking. I didn't think I could make it to work." Don Imus suggested an important cause for his disease could be stress. And he's no stranger to that. Back in 2007, Imus, who was hosting a morning talk show for almost 30 years, was fired by CBS Corp for making racially charged remarks about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team. Despite his apologies, he also lost his other job at MSNBC, where his show was simulcast. In late 2007, Imus returned to the airwaves with a syndicated show for the ABC Radio Networks and RFD-TV. Don Imus is no stranger to cancer either. He and his wife Deidre have worked on behalf of pediatric cancer patients for years through their well-known "Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer," leading him to joke this morning that he was changing the name of the "Imus Ranch for kids with cancer" to the "Imus Ranch for kids with cancer... and me."
