Rapper DMX was arrested at his home after being caught on
camera racing down a Phoenix-area freeway at upwards of 114 miles per hour (183
kph) in January, Arizona
state police said on Wednesday, according to Reuters.
According to police, stationary cameras caught DMX, whose
real name is Earl Simmons, in triple digits around 8:24 p.m.; one minute later he
was spotted again in his 1966 Chevrolet Nova II traveling at speeds over 100
mph (161 kph). The speed limit in the area is 65 (105 kph).
After authorities investigated the photos, they confirmed it
was Simmons driving. Then, they went to his Arizona home and arrested the rapper.
This was not the first time when police arrested him for
speeding. The rapper faces charges of racing on highway, reckless driving, two
counts of endangerment, three counts of criminal speed and driving on a
suspended license.
He was arrested last year for neglecting his dogs. The
neighbors alerted the police in connection with the rapper’s dogs who were
constantly barking and were allegedly tied up and locked in the house without
food and water. Police officers also found the buried remains of three other
dogs, firearms and marijuana. The case remains under investigation.
The rapper was released on Wednesday on bound after the
arrest for speeding.
“Criminal speeding endangers the lives of everyone on the
road,” said Roger Vanderpool, state Department of Public Safety director, in a
prepared statement. “Mr. Simmons wasn't signalled out because of his notoriety.”
