Rejected Developers Are Making Their Own App Store
The App Store has had an undeniable success, but that was mostly among users. Some developers have had quite a bitter taste upon submitting their applications to the App Store, considering Apple’s rigorous system of selecting them.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that frustrated developers now have created their own store…well, an unauthorized version of the App Store, yet a place where apps are free from Apple.

According to The Wall Street Journal, one of the rejected developers is now planning on launching the Cydia Store, which could make room for hundreds of rejected applications. Furthermore, it appears that another small company called Rock Your Phone is also planning on launching a similar store, while a third source is planning on opening an iPhone app store for adult games. Apple was no available for comment.

Many of the apps rejected by Apple were actually considered to be quite good and useful by users, but the company denied access to the App Store for some of them after accusing them of duplicating some of its own software.

But oddly enough, Apple’s selection criteria still remains mysterious, and developers often have the feeling that submitting an app is like buying a lottery ticket: there’s always a chance, but you’ll probably lose anyway.

The new app stores will give developers their way of making money, and will give the App Store a run for its money. Users will be given a choice (and I don’t mean Apple’s choice, but their own choice). The developer behind Cydia Store said he has already spoken with a lawyer, in case Apple might want to take legal actions against him.

It's called "Cydia". It's not "Being Launched". It's been around for more than a year now. Impressively poor reporting here.
