Sci Fi Channel Revamped
Sci Fi Channel Revamped
After 16 long years, Sci Fi Channel has decided to change its name … at least on paper.

The NBC Universal-owned cable network is expected to become SyFy starting with June, as the new moniker represents part of an extensive rebranding campaign that has been planned for over a year now. The change marks an advancement that also comprises a fresh logo and tagline, “Imagine Greater,” which were announced on Monday at the network’s “upfront” presentation to advertisers for the upcoming programming season.

The modifications intend to concentrate on old marketing goals at the network and practical disputes generated by the usage of a generic term as a brand name.

“We love being sci-fi, and we’re still embracing that,” explaiend network president Dave Howe on Friday. “But we’re more than just space and aliens and the future -- the three things most people think of when they think of ‘sci fi.’”

In spite of the fact that at first glance it may seem even more fantastical than the current name, “SyFy” generally avoids detaching itself too much from the original and current title that offers the network both experience and familiarity.

The network has been trying for a very long time to enlarge its image beyond its signature space series like “Battlestar Galactica” and “Stargate.” Moreover, the network is expected to reveal the branding campaign this summer together with the debut of “Warehouse 13,” a show about a couple of FBI agens who track down paranormal objects.
