After completing “Shine a Light,” his concert-film about the Rolling Stones, it seems Martin Scorsese will work together with the same team, trying to realize a musical documentary about Bob Marley, the legendary reggae musician.
The film has not been titled yet, but it is due to come out on Feb.6, 2010, the date when Marley would have celebrated his 65th birthday, the Hollywood Reporter informs. Marley’s family has enthusiastically authorized the making of the movie. Ziggy Marley, Bob Marley’s oldest son, who is also a well-known reggae musician, declared for Variety that he praises Scorsese’s idea:
"I am thrilled that the Marley family will finally have the opportunity to document our father's legacy and are truly honored to have Mr. Scorsese guide the journey."
Although many might think there is not much to say about the reggae singer’s life, the Oscar-winning director thinks differently. Marley was born in Jamaica, 1945, and was one of the most influential singers in the world, singing songs that were often concerned with religious or political themes.
He also held political speeches, acting like a true leader, and was considered by many a prophet of the Rastafarian religion. Unfortunately, he died at the young age of 36, after cancer from a football injury that spread through his entire body.
As Marley still has many fans who treasure his memory and his music, the film might be a success. There have existed several attempts to make a movie about the singer’s life, but they all remained unfulfilled.
