Starting this summer, Apple’s Snow Leopard will offer a bunch of new text features for Core Text related applications, Apple Insider reports. And I know it sounds really unbelievable and out of this world almost, but users will now get to use automatic spell and grammar checking, and much more!
Leaving the irony aside, Apple will introduce an automatic spell correction feature, sources familiar with the matter have said. This will allow users to opt for the system to fix errors while typing, rather than just signaling them and letting the users correct them.
Furthermore, the automatic spell correction will replace common misspells, such as “the” or “spelll,” although Microsoft Word users have longtime been familiar with this feature. And speaking of Word, another new addition from Apple will include an ‘AutoCorrect’ option that will allow users to replace words as they type.
In other words, they will be able to define some shortcuts that will then be automatically substituted with a more complex text. These features will of course come in handy, but I’m still waiting to see where the innovation is here.
Anyway, Snow Leopard will also reportedly improve copy and paste features through Services, which allows the operating system to copy a text and then send it to another application. The Services will now be easily available from the contextual menu of a selection.
The menu will also allow users to transform their text, by capitalizing all letters, or turning all caps into small letters. The Snow Leopard will also use Data Detectors in Mail, allowing data (phone numbers, dates, addresses) to be added to iCal or Address Book.
