Sony Launches Calling All Cars and Rampart on PlayStation Network
Sony quietly released the cartoonish, GTA-like game Calling All Cars on the PlayStation Network, for an estimated price of $9.99.

Along with it Sony also launched on the PSN the arcade game Rampart. This is the second major release after last week’s PSN debut classic Gauntlet II ($4.99) and the long delayed combo (demo and full game) Super Rub a Dub ($6.99).

It appears that Sony is taking small steps in developing the PSN’s fan base, since it only releases two games per week. However, this week marks the debut of Calling All Cars, a GTV-like, cops’n’robbers game previewed briefly last week.

CAC is the creation of David Jaffe and you should think of it as a wacky amalgamation of the Keystone Cops and Twisted Metal.

As a bonus, Sony offers the classic arcade game Rampart for $4.99 and promises at least three new trailers for some of the upcoming PS3 games. The first will be a video for the anticipated multiplayer title Warhawk, while the second is a trailer for Burnout Paradise, the first next-gen installment of the Burnout series and the last video will feature gameplay footage from Rampage World Tour, which could possibly be next week's downloadable release for the PlayStation Store.

If you wonder what Rampart is all about, think of it as a precursor of modern RTS games: players are required to build a fortress with randomly-generated pieces of castle wall and once the fortress is established as an enclosed space, players proceed at placing as many cannons as possible inside their castle walls, which are subsequently used to attack enemies. In essence, the game combines strategy, action, and Tetris-like puzzle mechanics, and should not be ignored by gamers searching for an old school arcade feel.
