Spike Lee and Nokia to Create Cellphone Movie
Filmmaker Spike Lee teamed with Nokia in order to direct a movie made with cell phone footage from everyday people, Reuters reports. It appears that the film will have three acts, and an “assignment” for each act would be announced online. “You are seeing first hand the democratization of film,” Lee declared in a statement on Thursday. “Aspiring filmmakers no longer have to go to film school to make great work. With a simple mobile phone, almost anyone can now become a filmmaker,” he added. The theme of the movie will evolve the way music is able to tell the story of people. Texts, music, images and videos can be submitted at certain times between now and August 21 to www.nokiaproductions.com. Nokia will choose 25 submissions, and people can vote online for their favorite for a top 10. Spike Lee will choose the winning submission from each act and he will direct the film through the Web site. The final movie with the three winning submissions and other contributed content will be released later this year in Los Angeles. Lee said he would assess the submissions to the site and even write a blog giving young filmmakers advice. “We want people to send sounds, music, maybe a baby crying in the park." Regarding the thousands of people aspiring Spike Lee would send a feedback on their work, he said “I can only do so much; I have a full-time job…We’ll manage.”
