Lucas Arts and BioWare unveiled “Star Wars: The Old Republic” at a press event at Lucas Arts’ headquarters in San Francisco Tuesday afternoon. The video game is a new massively multiplayer online one. The two companies did not divulge a release date and it appears that they will not show any live game play. However, even if a release date has not been set, users are excited by the possibility of once again playing in the Star Wars universe. The story is set about 350 years after the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and about 3,500 years before the Star Wars movies. In the game, players can customize their own characters, align with the Jedi order or Sith Lord and participate in adventures with other players on virtual worlds, such as Korriban and Tython. By making choices, you can be either on the good side (a Jedi Knight) or the bad side (a Sith Lord). This way, each will have its own storyline to pursuit. Even if the action is set 3,500 years before they existed, characters Chewbacca and R2-D2 are also present in the game, which has been in development since 2006, when BioWare opened a new studio in Austin, Texas. The Star Wars franchise’s most recently released game, “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” is currently dominating game sales. Over 1 million copies of the action-adventure game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii were sold in September, according to the market researcher NPD, which tracks console video game sales. As company officials told, the “Star Wars: The Old Republic” will act like a sequel for “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic”.
