Starting April 1, this year, Salmonella Saintpaul has sickened 1, 440 people and about 242 were hospitalized. The Food and Drug administration has tried to discover the produce infected since then.

At first, tomatoes were accused to contain the virus. Certain raw tomatoes were got off the market on June 7. The FDA groceries and restaurants stopped receiving the tomatoes and the industry started to fail. Tomatoes producers ran out of money and costumers.

After that, the FDA found the salmonella on a jalapeno imported from Mexico at the Agricola Zarigosa to a distribution center in McAllen, Texas, but the Mexicans said that the administration doesn’t have any scientific proof to harm their country so much.

All in all, the Salmonella outbreak seems to be over, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration stated. Still, its last source couldn’t be found because the nation’s food system is not so well organized.

The jalapeno and Serrano peppers seemed to be the strongly involved in the outbreak, but the investigators just couldn’t clear the tomatoes, though the evidence against the vegetables was slight.

Even if consumers can now eat the peppers at the farm in Mexico, there is no guarantee that another salmonella outbreak can be prevented.

The CDC and FDA advised officials some steps as such an outbreak won’t happen again. Funding allowed to state laboratories to test samples of suspected pathogens or standard procedures might help the population no to get sick so quickly and so much at a time.
