“The Dark Knight” smashes the box office mark by reaching to $400 million in only 18 days. This amazing score jumps all Hollywood records. Friday and Sunday, the Batman sequel grossed $42.7 million and it jumped straight to No. 1 in U.S. and Canadian theatres.
On Monday, though, the movie gathered such an audience that $6.3 million were collected and the movie’s tally reached up to $400.03 million. With the gains it had, “The Dark Knight” surprisingly smashes the records “Star Wars” had, as the new Batman movie is expected to reach $500 million next week, more than the $461 million that “Star Wars” reached. “Star Wars” ranks No. 2 movie in the U.S. and Canada since its release in 1977.
Still, those $500 million won’t make it enough to break the records for “Titanic”, which gained at least $600 million by 1997. “The Dark Knight” is the second movie from the Batman series released by Warner Bros., which started in 2005 with “Batman Begins.”
Both “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” were directed by Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale, who also plays Batman’s role. The movie hosts the last role of Heath Ledger, who died this year in January. He plays the villainous Joker and he was still making a hell of a job!
On Monday, except of the additional $210.2 million the movie gained internationally, “The Dark Knight” also became in six of top 10 from Japan, France and Spain.
