The Indian police said Friday’s blast at a Medina mosque was a terrorist act, carefully planned.
The southern city of Hyderabad was rocked Friday by a powerful explosion that killed eleven people and injured more than a hundred. A explosive device was planted at a Medina mosque and went of during the prayers.
After the blast hundreds of people gathered outside the building and attacked the security forces, angered by the violent act. Police officers couldn’t quell the violence with teargas or batons and had to use firearms, killing five people.
A large number of security forces were deployed in the area, as the city was quit Saturday, people stayed in their homes following the strike called by the Islamic organization. In total contrast with the peace in Hyderabad, other towns were the scene of protests, as people showed their solidarity with the victims and families.
The site of the blast was surrounded by police and an investigation started. Two other explosive devices were found and the bomb squad defused them. It appears the explosive charge was detonated from distance, using cell-phones. That clearly indicates the attack was thoroughly planned by a terrorist element.
