The iPhone Frenzy Has Started: 1 Million Units Sold in Less than a Week
Apple’s latest device, the 3G iPhone, has been this weekend’s star gadget as about 1 million units have been sold worldwide. While the exact number isn’t known and there was no time to determine it, the fact that the phone fulfilled expectations is sure.

Only about 270,000 units of the old iPhone had been sold in the first two days since its release in June 2007, and the 1 million units sold milestone had been reached only in September 2007. However, the old iPhone had been released only in the United States, while the new one reached 21 markets already.

As people started forming lines at Apple and AT&T stores, problems started to appear. The Apple servers that were supposed to take care of the activation of the devices collapsed because of the enormous number of attempts. While the initial plan was to allow buyers to activate their new iPhones in the AT&T stores some users were asked to do this via the iTunes site when they got home.

While some people must have felt frustrated because of the problems that plagued the launch, one might not blame Apple too much for the situation. After all, when launching a device that is supposed to have so many buyers, there is always the risk of something going wrong.

As far as Apple’s plans regarding the improved iPhone are concerned, the company hopes to sell about 10 million units by the end of the year.
