Actress Drew Barrymore confirmed she is among the directors who are being considered for helming the third "Twilight" movie due in 2010.
"I'm one of the directors that is being talked about, which is great, because I'm a director now," said Barrymore, who made her directorial debut with "Whip It!" set for release later this year. "But, you know, they'll make their choice."
While Summit has yet to choose who will direct "Eclipse" the third movie based on Stephenie Meyer's bestselling saga, new reports have come out that Paul Weitz was also tipped for the job. His brother, Chris Weitz is currently about to start filming "New Moon," the second installment of the vampire saga.
A post on the "Twilight" fan site Twilighters.org denied that Drew Barrymore would be directing the third installment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Series and that due to the "New Moon" post-production schedule for director Chris Weitz, his brother and co-owner of "Depth of Field Productions" - Paul Weitz - will be directing "Eclipse."
And apparently, a third director, Juan Antonio Bayona is reportedly on the same list with Barrymore and Paul Weitz. A protégé of Guillermo del Toro's, Bayona directed 2007's superb "The Orphanage" and is attached to adapt "Hater" for Universal Pictures.
One of the "Twilight" cast members, actor Kellan Lutz, who plays Emmet Cullen in the movies, slipped in an interview that the director for the third movie is a guy, which would mean it's either Weitz or Bayona.
The first film was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who parted ways with the franchise because she could not come to an agreement with the studio. Another female director was considered for "New Moon," but the opportunity to bring Chris Weitz, fresh off "Golden Compass," was too hard to turn down.
