Tuberculosis Patient Forced to Isolation
Tuberculosis Patient Forced to Isolation
A tuberculosis patient from San Bernardino was forced by the county authorities into medical isolation on Thursday because after he had received the diagnose of his disease, he didn’t take the medication properly and still continued to go to work, endangering other people to get the virus.

Jim Lindley, County Public Health Director, and Public Health Officer Dr. Maxwell Ohikhuare said that this was the first time when the county had to take such a decision. The patient’s name and gender weren’t released because of the medical privacy rules.

The patient was treated for tuberculosis in Las Vegas on August 7 before coming to Needles and a local doctor treated the sick person but the authorities suspected him of not taking the correct medication and that it didn’t remain in isolation.

David Wert, the county’s spokesman, said that a patient who is diagnosed with tuberculosis should take the medication in front of his doctor, but this one didn’t do so. In addition, he was found to be working, when he was supposed to remain isolated and not spreading the virus.

August 28 was when the county officials asked the patient to end all his contacts to the public and if it didn’t want to do so, they would have to put the person into medical custody. The sick person is now under treatment at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton and the officials say that this incident didn’t spread the virus.

In San Bernardino there are 93 TB sick people being treated right now. The symptoms of the disease are fever, weight loss, fatigue, coughing or night sweats.

TB is not a Virus!!!!
By Concerned Citizen, (2008-09-09 01:56)
Tuberculosis is not a virus it is a mycobacterium. So this misrepresentation makes me feel that this article is unjustly vilifying an individual. My only question would be: was the individual infectious or only harboring the bacteria? You can have TB but not be infectious. My father has TB but it is closed off in his lung. He became infected in Korea. People who have TB are not necessarily infectious. They can be treated for TB. The treatment takes 6 months to a year and must be take every day. Your body can fight the bacteria by sealing it in a granuloma in your lung. You will test positive for TB but not be infectious. Please check the facts of this story, and note the fact that TB is not a virus. TB is a complicated enough infection without being confused with a viral infection which is treated differently.
