While PUSA, or the Presidents of the United States of
America, have had the benefit of moderate celerity during the last decade, the
band hasn’t managed to get the same rate of success since 2004, when the band
reunited. However, PUSA might return to the top ten chart soon, as some of the
band’s albums are now available for download through Apple’s App Store.
The application is available both for the iPhone and for the
iPod Touch and comes at a price tag of $2.99. For this money, users get the
four albums of the band. Other extras will be available in the near future,
according to the developers. The application was developed by Melodeo, a
digital content company from Seattle.
It is arguable whether people will fall in love with the
band, now that its tunes are available on the App Store, but this application
might be the start of a true revolution in music distribution. If developers embrace
the idea soon enough, it means that any user will be able to browse through the
App Store and download digital music easier than ever. Of course, people can
already download music through iTunes, but they still cannot take their music
with them everywhere they want to.
Nevertheless, this idea wasn’t new, but few developers
thought that Apple would like to let music content spread through the App Store.
This is because it would create an internal competition with Apple’s own iTunes
platform. Yet, analysts pointed out that the App Store might be a good way for
newcomers in the music industry to become more popular.
Moreover, music distribution through an app format means
that there will be no need to sell each song separately. It remains to be seen
whether Apple will let this trend to expand in the near future.
