According to President George W Bush, the United States is prepared to embrace and apply new environmental programs in order to set an example for other nations.
Bush held a speech ahead of the Group of Eight summit due to begin next week in Germany and pledged to reduce pollution in the US and expects other industrialized countries to follow the same path.
“My proposal is this: By the end of next year, America and other nations will set a long-term global goal for reducing greenhouse gases. The United States will work with other nations to establish a new framework on greenhouse gas emissions for when the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012,” Bush said.
Bush didn’t reveal further aspects of the program, but said nations that will adhere to the pact would develop their own programs, suitable for the respective industry. He agreed to reduce the use of fossil fuels, that should be replaced with alternative energy sources through research and technology, not imposed laws.
International organizations like the European Union continually made calls to powerful industrialized nations to reduce greenhouse gases emissions and ease thee global warming process.
The G8 summit that will take place between 6-8 June in Heiligendamm will have global warming as the main subject on the agenda, after German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s strong will.
Before and after the summit, rapidly developing countries and the world’s richest nations will send their leaders to discuss plans and effective solutions to the pressing problem of pollution, that is the main cause for the global heating process.
