Today, April 29 is Uma Thurman’s
birthday .Today is also the day she and her family have to testify in the trial
against her stalker who managed to make the last years an “emotional blackmail”
campaign, according to the prosecution.
Jack Jordan, a literature graduate from the Chicago University and also a former mental
patient, has been stalking her for the last two years. This fervent fan sent
e-mails to Thurman’s family saying he would kill himself if he doesn’t see Uma.
The District Attorney Colleen Walsh said Jordan
had also been to Thurman's Greenwich Village
home. One of the employees said he was sitting on the steps, waiting.
According to Lisa Grondin, Thurman's former personal
assistant, the actress started smoking again after several creepy postcards
from Jordan.
In one of them he writes: “My hands should be on your body at all times,” as quoted by E! Online.
But the most terrifying event happened when he tried to
break in her movie trailer during a Soho film
shoot, in November 2005. At the harassment trial, on Monday, Joseph La Courte,
one of her aids, said: “Her hands were shaking, she was soaked. She couldn't
sit still. She didn't want to get dressed.”
On the other side, George Vomvolakis, the defendant’s lawyer,
says that his client truly loves Miss Thurman and he had no intention of
assaulting or threatening her. He also stated that, although he may be scary,
it doesn’t mean he’s a criminal. “He does not think the way you and I think. He
doesn't know the boundaries you and I know. He thinks it’s romantic,” added the
attorney.
After being arrested
in October 2007 and charged with misdemeanor stalking and aggravated assault, Jordan pleaded not guilty. He is now free on a $10,000 bail.
