"Wii Fit" Perfectly Fits Mother's Day

The online division of Wal-Mart Stores Inc has come with a rather surprising suggestion to replace the old fashioned presents that are usually bought for Mother's Day; as the launch of Nintendo Co Ltd's "Wii Fit" video game in the US is approaching, Walmart.com people say the game is the "perfect gift" for such an occasion.

Wii Fit is quite different from anything else out there as it can respond to the player’s weight and movement; it has special sensors that follow the player’s side-to-side and front-to-back movements in order to correlate the dynamics of the player's avatar. Activities that can be performed on Wii, while instructed by one of the two virtual trainers, include balance games, yoga, aerobics, strength training, and muscle-toning exercises.

Wii Fit uses the Body Mass Index (BMI) in order to monitor the player’s daily progress toward a healthier lifestyle. The BMI is in fact a standard measure of body fat approved by the World Health Organization and the National Institute of Health.

Until May 11, customers can find a special deal on the website: a $10 online gift card that can be used for a future order on Walmart.com is given to those who pre-order the game or pay in advance the $89.74 bill.

"Initial response is extremely strong, and we're feeling really good about Nintendo Wii Fit dominating the home page," Kelly Thompson, Walmart.com's chief merchant, said with regard to the interest that has been shown in the product since the online orders have begun. "... We really like the angle of marketing it to Mom," she added.
