Wii Reaches 7 Million Units Sold Worldwide
Does anyone doubt that Nintendo won the console war? If so, that someone should take a close look at what VG Chartz is reporting, straight from retailers all over the world.

According to the aforementioned site, Wii has already surpassed the psychological barrier of 7 million units sold and is on track of surpassing Microsoft’s Xbox 360 by the end of the year.

The majority of Wii fans (not fanboys, just fans) are registered in North America, where more than 2.84 million units were sold, with Japan coming closely on the second place (2.46 units). Europe, Australia and other territories were less enthusiastic about Nintendo’s beloved “Wii would like to play” slogan, since at the moment when I’m writing this article there are only 1.79 million Wiis snapped up there. Total: 7.09 million consoles in only 7 months…

Wii’s rivals slowing down: Xbox 360 reached only 9.71 units (far from Microsoft’s estimation of more than 10 million- as of January 10, 2007- and even further from Redmond’s aim of reaching 15 million Xbox 360 consoles sold by June 2007) while the PS3 is the last in line, with only 3.31 million units sold.

The war of portables also shows Nintendo’s undisputable supremacy in the entertainment world: 17.09 million DS sold in Japan, plus another 12.33 million in the US, added 13.08 in other territories makes up an impressive 42.50 million DS consoles sold worldwide.

Need I mention that the gorgeous and lovely PSP is lagging far behind? With 5.55 million PSPs sold in Japan until now, 8.17 million in the US and 7.66 million in other territories, Sony’s portable gadget barely reaches half of DS’ performance (21.33 million units sold worldwide since its debut in March 2005).
