FX announced on Monday that William Hurt signed on to join the
season two cast of “Damages,” reuniting him with his “The Big Chill” co-star Glenn
Close, Variety reports.
This will mark the first time that Hurt signed on to a TV
series as a regular. No word on whether or not Hurt’s character will extend to
the third season though.
It seems that Hurt will play a client of Close’s character,
tough-as-nails lawyer Patty Hewes. Hurt’s character and Hewes also have a past that
is more than just professional.
“Damages” starts shooting its second season next week in New York.
“As we created the role, we were thinking about who might be the right fit,”
said exec producer Todd Kessler. “William was at the top of the list. Once you
see this season, you'll see why it makes so much sense,” Kessler added,
according to the same source.
Todd A. Kessler, Glenn Kessler and Daniel Zelman created and exec produces
the series.
Besides Close, Rose Byrne and Tate Donovan are also set to return for season
two. FX had previously picked up two more seasons of “Damages.”
William Hurt won a best actor Oscar in 1986 for “Kiss of the Spider Woman.”
He has been nominated three other times, most recently for “A History of
Violence.”
The actor is currently on screen in “The Incredible Hulk.”
