Yahoo Rejects Another Proposal From Microsoft

Saturday night Yahoo declined another agreement with Microsoft and billionaire financer Carl Icahn. The offer also comprised stipulations that would have made compulsory a substantial restructuring of the corporation. This is not the first time Icahn has made such a far-fetched proposal.

The American public corporation Yahoo said the "ludicrous" offer made by Icahn and Microsoft on Friday required the substitution of the corporation’s top executives and board of directors and the sale of its online search business to the American multinational computer technology corporation. The newest bid, which was delivered on Friday, is considered another maneuver to obtain Yahoo’s search business.

In the statement he released, Yahoo board president Roy Bostock said “this odd and opportunistic alliance of Microsoft and Carl Icahn has anything but the interests of Yahoo's stockholders in mind.” He also added that the proposal was made without input from Yahoo and was far more favorable to Microsoft. The chairman insisted the proposal was non-negotiable also because, together with the board, they were given less than a day to come to a decision with regards to the proposal.

Microsoft offered to purchase Yahoo Corporation for 44.6 billion dollars on January 31, but took away its proposal on May 3, claiming Sunnyvale, California-based company rejected the idea of budging even though the software giant raised the offer’s stake up to almost 50 billion dollars.

After rejecting the deal with Microsoft, Yahoo proclaimed it will associate with opponent Google. The Internet company expects the alliance to increase its profits by 250 to 450 million dollars only in its first year.
