Boulder ranked 6th ‘Coolest Small Town’ in the World

Colorado is indeed a hipster haven. But globally, according to a new study conducted by The Urban Creativity Institute, the top spot for hipsters goes to Charleston, South Carolina.

Boulder ranked as the sixth coolest small town in the world according to Oregon-based institute’s ‘coolness index’, which combed through 647 cities with populations under 130,000 across 20 countries. The index looked at 13 data points, from the number of tech-based startups to coffee shops per 10,000 city residents.

Out of the top ten, three are within the United States. Truckee, California, ranked number nine.

The coolest towns in the world, according to the index, are:

  3. Oss, Netherlands
  4. Santa Rita do Sapucai, Brazil
  5. Chiang Mai, Thailand
  6. Boulder, Colorado
  7. Leuven, Belgium
  8. Tiradentes, Brazil
  9. Truckee, California
  10. San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
